Gallery Noise - 08 w/ Kimon Kirligitsis

On the 8th episode of Gallery Noise, Cecile invites visual artist Kimon Kirligitsis. He is part of the collective ‘De Kerk’ together with eight artists, sharing a century-old Catholic church as a collaborative workspace here in Rotterdam. During the global pandemic, Kimon undertook an apprenticeship under an abbess in a northern Greek monastery. Being master in Byzantine iconography and mosaic, she passed on technical lessons essential for his work. Yet, the most profound impact was the close connection he developed with her—a person wholly devoted to God and spirituality. This experience together with the Catholic church as his environment, inspires forthcoming works, exploring the resonance a powerful image, like one depicting God, can have in human culture.
