Tell me… without talking. What does home sound like? What song feels like the first warm rain? Folk music, live instrumentals, and stories told through music. I’ll be asking big questions, answered in the simplest way. Objects of inspiration: The škoromati of Brkini (where im from!) have upheld their carnival traditions for over 700 years, making them the oldest documented masks in Slovenia. Centered in Hrušica and six other villages, they strictly follow ancient customs, never performing outside the carnival season. Wearing distinctive wooden masks, they announce spring’s arrival and winter’s end, visiting homes to offer blessings for a good harvest, happiness, and health, receiving gifts in return before gathering for a communal feast. Morčić earrings, iconic to Rijeka and Kvarner, feature a black Moor’s bust with a white turban. Once worn by fishermen and their only sons, they symbolize luck and protection—doubling as a last-resort ticket home if fortunes ran dry abroad. Keeping it close, it brings us optimism and guarantees our wishes coming true, our serenity, the protection from our enemies and from all the forces of evil. Inspired by Venetian moretto designs, Morčić became a regional emblem, still worn by many locals today.
