Radio Ruins: Lost and Sound

With each technological advancement or societal development comes new ways to think, see, and compose reality around us. These distinct eras, or worlds, change the common ground on which we stand, consequently shaping our common sense. At the end of our world, what ruins remain for the future world to interpret?

Radio Ruins: Lost & Sound is the second of three public moments in the WdKA Visual Culture minor, manifesting as a four hour sonic journey in collaboration with Operator Radio. How can we actively reflect on the ruins we're leaving behind during processes of creation, and how will this information be translated by future generations? Lost and Sound takes the listener to planets filled with aural landscapes, deep grooves, and sonic snippets haunted by the zeitgeist of our current world.

01. Human / Nature
Human Nature consists of individual research projects based around the notion of human psychology and its relation to other than human beings.

02. Mixed Laundry
As pieces go together within the laundry drum, the mangle and blend into one another. Sounds will be presented in the form of a laundry cycle, where every sound is a step into the cycle and ties everything together as a whole. These works don't correlate to one another but just as in the wassing drum they follow eachother up and form a whole cycle. These are the sounds that help us cope and melodies that break the loops of our struggles.

03. The Spiral
The Spiral group came together while discussing the effects of the environment on humans and vice versa. Each of our work tells a story related to the topic of the environment in one way or another.

04. Digital Nostalgia
Digital Nostalgia came together as a group to explore and create personal projects linked to our Interests in Digital Fabrication and Recollections of the past, the final pieces “Sonic Territories” compiles these works into a listening experience through both Digital and Analog mediums.

05. Storytelling
Today we bring you: Ruined stories.
As humans we experience the world trough stories. Our early ancestors would trade stories around the fire. Those stories are the fabric our societies are built on. As societies grow and their technologies became more advance so did their means to tell stories.

06. Ousia
The work of Ousia digs into the communication between multiple elements and how their perception is changed by human intervention. The following are sonic attempts to alter different forms of language, which can translate the sometimes hidden or forgotten conversations.

07. Autonomy through Ruins
Autonomy through ruins is an eclectric journey through the individuality and the interests of each of the members of our group. The cultural ruins that shape our sonic taste will take you from ambient to dancehall from experimental spoken word to hip hop.

08. Queer Care
This radio show is presented to you by the queer care collective. It starts off sensually and lively, taking you on a journey of a variety of queer experiences. From pleasure and anxiety, to longing and despair. Tune in and listen with care.
