Chatelin

Chatelin is the DJ alias of Alexander, a selector based in the Netherlands. His sets revolve around steady beats with occasional broken moments, always focusing on atmosphere and flow. Playing mostly on vinyl, he approaches DJing with patience and attention to detail, letting long blends slowly shape the energy in the room. Rather than sticking to one particular sound, he gravitates towards music that feels mysterious, slightly devilish, sensual and sometimes ecstatic. Alexander is currently studying at AEMA, part of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and is part of the team at Birdcage Radio in Utrecht, where he regularly contributes to the station and plays extended sets. His connection to music also runs through his Indonesian roots. Stories about his great-grandfather, who played percussive psychedelic music, left a lasting impression and still echo in his fascination with rhythm and trance. For Alexander, music is a way of expressing things that are difficult to put into words. The spaces he enjoys most are slightly smokey rooms with soft red light, where a steady groove can slowly settle in and people lose track of time.
